The Reform Party of Estonian Prime Minister Kaja Kallas earned a resounding win in the nation’s general election on Sunday.

Defeating the far-right Conservative People’s Party of Estonia (EKRE), which advocated reducing aid to Ukraine.

According to Kallas, her party would seek a cooperation with the Social Democrats and the liberal Estonia 200 party on Tuesday.

On security, environmental, and cost of living-related problems, the three parties share similar perspectives.

The Estonia 200 are newcomers who campaigned on a liberal platform emphasising innovation, security, and education while the Social Democrats are part of the present coalition government.

Tomorrow is probably when coalition discussions start.

Up until election day, polls indicated a close race, which stoked concerns about a conservative administration that would have been less supportive of the Ukrainian war effort.

Following her victory, Kallas said that her party’s strong win shows “that Estonians overwhelmingly value liberal values, security founded on EU and NATO, and firm support to Ukraine.”

EKRE, which has accused the present administration of “warmongering” and reducing the nation’s military stockpiles by making donations to Ukraine, was a favourite among voters in rural areas and those who were older.

Estonia has contributed more than 1% of the nation’s GDP to aiding Ukraine, making it the largest donor compared to the size of its economy.

More foreign aid is being pushed for by Kallas to help Ukraine fight off Russia.
