Lahore Zoo is a major attraction for people who live or visit the walled city. Its aviary housing colourful birds including parrots, peacocks and pigeons has tempted thousands of visitors ever since it was established over a decade ago. Many other animals including deer, zebras and the King of the Jungle, are house in the facility. However, beyond the allure of nature lies an uncertain future for Lahore Zoo. In recent years, many rare animal species have died due to malnutrition. The zoo administration has also struggled with importing exotic animals. In its rare animal collection, the historic zoo currently has only one hippopotamus, giraffe and rhino. Nevertheless, people of Lahore continue to visit the menagerie for their children’s entertainment.
