First state visit as king ends.

On Wednesday, the King bid South African President Cyril Ramaphosa farewell at Buckingham Palace.

The royals haven’t held a state visit since 2019, when Trump visited. It was also King Charles’ first state visit after becoming monarch on Sept. 8. (A royal source confirmed the visit before Queen Elizabeth’s death.)

President Ramaphosa will attend a banquet at the Guildhall hosted by the Lord Mayor, City of London Corporation, Duke and Duchess of Gloucester. Lord Chamberlain will bid President Ramaphosa farewell on behalf of the King.

Kate Middleton and Prince William visited President Ramaphosa at the Corinthia Hotel on Tuesday, then accompanied him to Horse Guards Parade. The president and royals then rode to Buckingham Palace. That night, Kate Middleton and Queen Camilla wore tiaras to a state supper at Buckingham Palace. King Charles and President Ramaphosa spoke.

The King greeted guests in numerous African languages, including Venda, which the president speaks, before discussing the nations’ shared heritage.

“My life has always included South Africa and the Commonwealth. My mother often recalled her visit to Cape Town in 1947, the year before I was born, when she devoted her life to the Commonwealth “Charles referenced her 1947 radio broadcast before becoming queen. “It’s emotional and significant that you’re our first State Visit guest,” he said. Prince Edward accompanied President Ramaphosa at Kew Gardens on Wednesday. At Kew Gardens, they witnessed South African plants, notably the King Protea.

They also visited the Francis Crick Institute, a biological research institute that studies health and illness. President Ramaphosa and Prince Edward examined COVID-19 infection-diagnosis equipment before meeting South African scientists and students.
