On Sunday afternoon, during the Thunder Over Michigan air show, a jet crash occurred, resulting in a fortunate escape for two individuals.

While the jet was flying over a residential area, both the pilot and the passenger successfully ejected from the aircraft and deployed their parachutes.

Following a safe landing, both individuals were taken to a nearby hospital as a precautionary measure.

Fortunately, they were assessed and found to have incurred no significant injuries.

The pair who used parachutes to exit the aircraft ultimately landed in Belleville Lake, according to information provided to CNN by the Federal Aviation Administration.

“The pilot and backseater successfully ejected from the aircraft before the crash.

While it did not appear they sustained any significant injuries, first responders transported the pair to a nearby hospital as a precaution,” read the statement from the Wayne County Airport Authority.

According to the airport authority, the aircraft crashed into the parking lot of Waverly on the Lake Apartments in Belleville.

The aircraft made contact with unoccupied vehicles in the apartment complex’s parking lot. The Wayne County Airport Authority emphasized that neither individuals at the apartment complex nor attendees of the air show sustained any injuries.

Sources indicate that the jet involved in the incident was identified as a MiG-23UB. The two individuals ejected from the aircraft just south of Willow Run Airport, near the city of Ypsilanti.

Both the FAA and the National Transportation Safety Board are set to conduct investigations into the incident, based on reports.

The Thunder Over Michigan airshow spans two days. The event organizers announced on Sunday that they would be halting the show due to an undisclosed “situation,” without revealing further specifics.

“Please make your way into your vehicles and calmly out of the airfield. Please be patient as we control traffic around the area,” said the post.
