KARACHI: The Sindh government has shifted 20 Orange Line Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) vehicles to the federal government’s Green Line Bus Service depot in Surjani Town because its depot is near Banaras Chowk is still under construction.
The imported buses from China were transported from Karachi Port to Surjani Town depot, an official said, calling it a “temporary arrangement” because the Banaras depot is yet to be constructed and functional.
He stated, however, that the Banaras Chowk depot will be finished in a week and that the Orange Line buses were only shifted to Surjani Town to minimize damage at the port.
Sindh Information Minister Sharjeel Memon visited the Abdul Sattar Edhi BRT Orange Line corridor on Sunday to assess the progress of continuing civil infrastructure construction, including the completion of the bus depot and stations, as the project’s deadline approaches.
“All works, including the underground fuel tank, wastewater plant, depot shed, lift installation, and accelerator installation, should be completed on time,” added Memon, who also oversees transportation.
