KARACHI: The Union of Small and Medium Enterprises (Unisame) and the Pakistan Council of Scientific and Industrial Research (PCSIR) officials are scheduled to meet on February 17, 2023 at the Unisame office to put into gear a list of items to be offered to entrepreneurs who wish to manufacture from indigenous material for domestic consumption and also exports, a statement said.

Unisame President Zulfikar Thaver said: “we are proud of our scientists and food technologists and this is the time we need them most to make import substitutes.”

“We have been assured of their guidance and support and we will impress upon the business community to come forward and set up industries for exports and also meet the domestic requirements,” he added.

“It is unfortunate that we have been importing foodstuffs like cheese, butter, confectionery, sauces, chips, synthetic meat, bean curd and other items, although we could have manufactured them here easily,” he added.

Dr Khaula Shirin, a consultant and former PCSIR director general, will preside over the meeting assisted by her team comprising Dr Mukhtar, senior industrial relations officer and Mehtab, marketing officer.
