Dubai, a city known for its visionary projects, is set to enhance its public transportation network with the addition of the Blue Line Metro extension. This new line will play a crucial role in connecting the existing Red and Green Metro lines, further improving the city’s already impressive transportation infrastructure.

The Blue Line is planned to span a total length of 30 kilometers, with approximately half of it running underground and the other half above ground. The recent tender issued by the Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) outlines the details of this ambitious project, which aims to enhance the city’s mobility and cater to its rapid urban growth.

This extension will introduce 14 stations, strategically placed to serve various parts of the city. Seven of these stations will be elevated, including one iconic station, while five will be underground, including one interchange station. Additionally, two elevated transfer stations will link to the existing Centrepoint station and Creek station, providing seamless connectivity for commuters.

One significant aspect of this project is the inclusion of 28 new driverless trains, reflecting Dubai’s commitment to adopting cutting-edge technology in its transportation system. A new depot will be constructed to house up to 60 trains, further expanding the capabilities of the metro.

The scope of work for the winning contractor or consortium is extensive and covers civil works, electromechanical components, operation and control systems, and the design and supply of rolling stock. This comprehensive approach ensures that the Blue Line will be a state-of-the-art addition to Dubai’s public transport system.

The Dubai Metro has already earned its place as the world’s longest driverless metro network, with its 89.3-kilometer length and exceptional punctuality rate of 99.7 percent. It has served over 2 billion commuters in the past 14 years, setting high standards for operational efficiency and safety.

The Blue Line extension is part of the Dubai 2040 Urban Plan, which anticipates the city’s population to grow from 3.3 million in 2020 to 5.8 million by 2040. As the city’s population continues to surge, the need for sustainable urban development becomes more crucial. The Blue Line Metro extension will play a vital role in meeting this challenge by providing efficient and eco-friendly transportation options.

Dubai’s commitment to expanding and enhancing its public transport system demonstrates its dedication to creating a city that is not only futuristic but also sustainable. The Blue Line extension is yet another step in Dubai’s journey toward becoming a global leader in urban planning and transportation.
