Another tweeted, ‘Just wow! There was laughter and there was tears. A new era indeed #DowntonAbbeyANewEra.’

Someone penned, ‘There’s a birth, a death, a proposal, and a spot of disputed paternity, with all loose ends tied as neatly as if Mr. Carson himself had attended to them.

‘There are also some genuine chuckles, and a few shamelessly derivative storylines…Downton is the gift that keeps on giving.’

Downton Abbey fans were looking forward to the latest episode, which saw the Crawley family travel to the South of France to solve a mystery at a home bestowed upon Dowager Countess of Grantham, Violet Crawley, while an ambitious director prepared to film at Downton.

One fan favorite Violet said, ‘I’ve come into the possession of villa in the South of France.’

She continues: ‘Years ago, before you were born. I met a man.’

It then transpires Dowager Grantham and her lover ‘spent a few days together and he gave her a house’.

Hugh Jackman, Michelle Williams, and Penelope Wilton will all return in the next sequel.

In the trailer, Lady Mary (Michelle) discusses the difficulties of marriage, and it appears that there may be trouble in paradise for her.

‘You don’t need me to remind you that marriage is a novel full of plot twists along the road,’ Lady Mary says to Hugh’s character.

The estate also becomes the backdrop for a film, and Dominic, who plays a 1920s Hollywood actor, becomes quite the heartthrob among the workers, according to the teaser.

One of the cooks said, ‘There is something about him, he’s like a wild animal ready to spring.’

Mister Barber, a producer and director, begins to shoot the film – but Earl of Grantham, Robert Crawley (Hugh Bonneville) isn’t impressed by the fanfare.

he said, ‘I think its a horrible idea. Actresses plastered in make-up and actors just plastered,’ as the scene shifts to the Hollywood cast interrupting the day-to-day life in Downton.

The teaser also teases that widower Tom Branson will finally find love with maid Lucy Smith, as the two tie the wedding in beautiful scenes.

Meanwhile, Hugh Bonneville opened out about Maggie Smith’s comeback to the big screen, revealing that he feared her character on Downton Abbey was ‘going to die between films.’

On Friday morning, the actor, who plays Robert Crawley in the period drama and the forthcoming sequel film, appeared on Magic Radio Breakfast to discuss the new release.

Hugh, 59, also addressed rumors’ that this could be Maggie’s final acting role, saying that she always says she’s ‘done’ but then returns.

‘I thought she was going to die between films,’ Hugh said during the interview, ‘but there she is, popping up like a bad penny and being absolutely right on as usual.’

‘Every iteration of the show is the ‘that’s the last time, that’s it, I’m done’ and there she is again,’ the actor joked, adding: ‘Every iteration of the show is the ‘that’s the last time, that’s it, I’m done’ and there she is again.

‘She’s on fire in this and, as usual, has all the finest lines, which we don’t mind at all.’

Maggie had previously stated that the sixth season of Downton Abbey would be her final season – which turned out to be the show’s final season overall – but she returned for the big screen sequel this year.

Julian said of the project, “It’s truly a new era.” The longer the ’20s progressed, the more the world changed in a variety of ways. By the end of the 1920s, everything had changed, from entertainment to transportation. That’s what we’re talking about there.’

Julian sees the Downton Abbey films as a continuation of the hit television series, which aired for six seasons between 2010 and 2015, and he says the new film will start up where the previous one left off.

He said, ‘As we know from the last film, Mary may not be the titular head of the household, but she is effectively running the show. We take that further.

‘We’re trying to mark the change – the fact that Crawleys of Downton are nearly in the 1930s, which is merely the beginning of the modern world.’
