Ellen Pompeo highlights challenging working conditions on Grey’s Anatomy sets

In a recent talk show, Ellen Pompeo praised her former Grey’s Anatomy costar Katherine Heigl.

Pompeo, who was joined by Grey’s costar Kate Walsh on a recent edition of her podcast Tell Me, reminisced on Heigl’s comments from over a decade ago.

Pompeo recalled Heigl calling “long working hours on the Grey’s Anatomy set” “cruel and unpleasant” on The Late Show with David Letterman in 2009.

“I recall Heigl saying something on a talk programme about the ridiculous hours we were working, and she was 100 percent correct,” the 52-year-old stated.

“She’d be a great hero if she said it today,” Pompeo said, adding, “But she’s ahead of her time, made a statement about our insane hours, and, of course, let’s trash a woman and call her ungrateful.”

The Daredevil star then praised Heigl for being “brave” enough to come out at a time when doing so was not the norm. She also stated that her co-star was being really honest about the working circumstances.

Heigl, who played Dr. Izzie Stevens on the blockbuster medical drama from 2005 to 2010, drew a lot of criticism at the time for openly labelling the show’s lengthy hours on set “cruel.”

In September of last year, the 27 Dresses actress wrote a lengthy Instagram post about the backlash she received as a result of her remark.
