Prince Andrew’s involvement in a scandal made things “easier” for his daughters Princess Beatrice and Princess Eugenie because it settled the dispute over their royal future.

This week, the Duke of York took centre stage, accompanying the Queen to Prince Philip’s memorial service at Westminster Abbey. Andrew accompanied his mother from Windsor Castle and assisted her into the church via a side door to lessen the amount of walking for the 95-year-old monarch.

The Dean of Westminster, the Very Reverend Dr David Hoyle, was scheduled to show Her Majesty to her seat, while Andrew was expected to stroll to his place with his daughters Beatrice and Eugenie and their husbands. Andrew, on the other hand, took the lead in walking his mother to and from the front of the church, taking a front row seat himself.

It was his first public appearance since the civil sexual assault case brought against him in the United States was settled.

Virginia Giuffre accused the Duke of sexually abusing her when she was 17 in 2001, charges that Andrew angrily refuted on multiple occasions.

After a New York judge rejected Andrew’s claims for the case to be dismissed, signalling that it should go to trial, the parties reached an out-of-court settlement.
