Amber Heard claims that her part as Mera in Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom was cut by Warner Bros. Heard first appeared as Mera in Zack Snyder’s Justice League before moving on to a greater role in James Wan’s Aquaman.

Heard wrote an op-ed for The Washington Post shortly after her divorce from actor Johnny Depp, claiming Depp had assaulted her during their relationship, forcing Depp to initiate a series of lawsuits, including one against The Sun, which he lost. Depp then sued Heard for defamation, and the matter is now pending in court. After receiving backlash over her op-ed, fans petitioned to have Heard removed from the Aquaman sequel. The actress was called back for the film, but it now appears that her role will be considerably less than it was previously.

According to CNN, Heard testified today that Warner Bros. did not want her back in the role at first. Heard claims she “fought incredibly hard” to be in the film and was offered many draughts, with subsequent versions omitting sections affecting her character, such as action sequences.

Heard stated, “I was given a script. And then given new versions of the script that had taken away scenes that had action in it, that depicted my character and another character, without giving spoilers away, two characters fighting with one another. They basically took a bunch out of my role. They just removed a bunch.”

While a fan petition to have her removed gained traction after her legal issues surfaced (it now has 4.1 million signatures), Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom producers stated that they would not bow to fan pressure when it came to bringing Heard back for the sequel, saying that they had to “do what’s right for the film” even if they were aware of the controversy, according to Screenrant.
