The whole fiasco started when Sadiq Saleem, an entertainment journalist took to Twitter and started the blame game. He said that the teaser for Karan Johar’s Jug Jug Jeeyo included the Pakistani hit Nach Punjaban.

Nach Punjaban is a wedding classic that has been booming across ceremonies and streets alike for the longest time. The journalist further compared the situation to Kanika Kapoor “borrowing” Hadiqa Kiani’s music without royalties.

The musician resorted to social media to clarify that his song had not been sold to any Indian film. And that he reserves the right to “go to court and claim damages.”

The charges may not be genuine, according to a post on Twitter by MOVIEBOX, which owns many labels. Leaving people perplexed as to why Abrar Ul Haq was kept in the dark about it. According to the tweet:

“Nach Panjaban has been officially licensed for it to be included in the Film “Jug Jugg Jeeyo” by @TSeries. @karanjohar & @DharmaMovies have the legal rights to use this song in their film and the tweet by @AbrarUlHaqPK earlier today is defamatory and completely unacceptable.”

Furthermore, Dharma’s employee Somen Mishra tweeted the following:

“I have no idea how people do film journalism without having basics in place, these are like basics of business, thoda padh likh lo, check karo, how these things work, see the music label. Ata na pata, daal do tweet, script ho ya music. Problem is every moron got a twitter account.”

Haq recently resorted to social media to declare that “the song has not been licensed to [anyone]. If someone is claiming it, then produce the agreement. I will be taking legal action.”

It’s intriguing to see how this strange banter is now taking place. With most of us having no idea what’s going on. Ali Sethi’s music in Modern Love is another recent example of Pakistani music being utilized in Indian productions. Was the appropriate legal action taken? We’ll have to wait and see what happens.
