Kevin McNally and Greg Ellis, who portrayed pirates in the film, have demanded that Depp be reinstated as the beloved captain, claiming, “There is no Pirates series without Johnny’s Captain Jack.”

Fans of the actor have not given up hope of seeing him again. One prominent example is a Change.org petition to get Depp back as Jack Sparrow, which has gathered over 600,000 signatures and is already near to one million (via Change).

His petition still shows that a big number of individuals were voicing their support for Depp at a time when his public reception was at its lowest, and that should be taken into account.
