Prince Charles to never accept significant cash charitable donations.
Prince Charles will no longer be in charge of giving large amounts of money to his charities, a royal source said. A former Qatari prime minister is said to have given the heir to the throne €3m (£2.6m) in cash, some of it in a suitcase, between 2011 and 2015. This has led to harsh criticism of the heir to the throne . Media reported.
On Wednesday, however, a royal source said that Charles follows the advice and that such things have not happened in the last five years and “would not happen again.”
It comes after a pressure group called Republic asked for full disclosure about the “shocking” matter, saying it raised “serious questions about Prince Charles’s judgment” amid other cash-for-honors claims.
The royal source told the media, “[The cash] was passed immediately to his charities and it was his charities who decided to accept the money-that is a decision for them.”
“And they did so, and as they confirmed, it followed all the right processes, the auditors looked at it.”
“The Prince of Wales operates on advice. Situations and contexts change over the years.“
The source said, “For more than half a decade, with the situation as it has evolved, this has not happened and it would not happen again. That is then and this is now.“
