Sharmeen Obaid-Chinoy, the director of Ms. Marvel, has been chosen to helm the latest big-screen movie in the galaxy far, far away that the acclaimed writer is producing.

According to this source, it is now known that the movie will take place after the events of Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker from 2019 even if it won’t be a direct sequel.

According to the latest information, the Lindelof-directed Star Wars movie may include figures from the most recent Star Wars trilogy even if it won’t be directly related to the Skywalker saga.

Together with Lindelof, Justin Britt-Gibson (The Strain, The Counterpart) is penning the next movie.

The article claims that after Star Wars Celebration, a private writers’ room was held, bringing together aspiring authors including Andy Greenwald, Patrick Somerville (The Leftovers), Rayna McClendon (Willow), and Britt-Gibson (Briarpatch).

Although any of those other names might be connected to a number of different projects, according to some sources, Lindelof and Britt-Gibson started making this particular movie after the idea was developed.

The fact that Lindelof and Britt-picture Gibson’s is referred to as a solo endeavour may be a sign that Lucasfilm is giving up on its trilogy-focused approach.

Lucasfilm has mostly maintained the theatrical releases of well-known characters (Luke Skywalker, Han Solo), but the company has gained great praise for exploring new reaches of the galaxy in TV series like The Mandalorian and Andor.

Perhaps Lindelof and Britt-film, Gibson’s which is a stand-alone endeavour, will help to develop Star Wars’ mythology for the big screen.

There is no set date for the release of Lindelof’s movie, similar to several other Star Wars movies that have been announced.

Given the project’s early stages of development, The Hollywood Reporter estimates that the earliest release could be in December 2025.

Fans will remember a Rogue Squadron movie in production starring Wonder Woman’s Patty Jenkins, which was formerly scheduled for release in December 2022.

It’s unknown where the movies being developed by Kevin Feige and Michael Waldron (Loki) or Taika Waititi (Thor: Love and Thunder) and Krysty Wilson-Cairns (1917) stand, but that project has since been put on hold.

The Mandalorian, Andor, The Book of Boba Fett, and Obi-Wan Kenobi are just a few examples of the television projects that Lucasfilm has been far more successful at launching on Disney+, all of which have garnered praise and positive discussion.

The Acolyte, Skeleton Crew, and Ahsoka are three other programmes in development that will have Rosario Dawson returning in the title role.
