Finally, the Doctor has a new companion! The Doctor’s (Ncuti Gatwa) new human travelling companion for Season 14 is named Ruby Sunday, and Millie Gibson has officially joined the Doctor Who cast as Ruby Sunday.

Gibson revealed the thrilling news in a public statement in advance of her new role in the venerable programme: “She will make her debut alongside Gatwa’s 15th Doctor.”

“Whilst still being in total disbelief, I am beyond honored to be cast as the Doctor’s companion. It is a gift of a role, and a dream come true, and I will do everything to try and fill the boots the fellow companions have traveled in before me. And what better way to do that than being by the fabulous Ncuti Gatwa’s side, I just can’t wait to get started.”

18-year-old Millie is on the road to a promising career. She is most known for her part as Kellie Neelan in the British serial series Coronation Street.

She has also made additional cameos in the dramas Butterfly and Love, Lies, and Records. She was the Best Young Performer Award winner at The British Soap Awards earlier this year.

Russell T. Davies, the showrunner of Doctor Who, welcomed the actress as well. Davies remarked, “Millie shines like a star already.

She is intelligent, lively, cunning, and a fantastic actor. As a Coronation Street fan, I’ve seen Millie endure gunfights, sieges, and pursuits, but that’s nothing in comparison to what Ruby Sunday will experience.

Also in a letter, Gatwa congratulated his new co-star:

“Millie just is the companion. She is full of talent, strength, she has a cheeky sparkle in her eye and is sharp as a razor. From the moment she walked into the room she captured all of our attention with her effervescence and then solidified that attention with the sheer torque of her talent. This adventure is going to be so wild and so fun, I cannot WAIT to sail the universe with Millie!”

Gatwa made his debut appearance in a season trailer last month, giving fans their first look at him. On social media, he later made a formal announcement of his new position as the Doctor and identified himself as the Fifteenth Doctor, succeeding David Tennant in the role.

The Netflix comedy-drama series Sex Education, for which the Scottish-Rwandan actor won the BAFTA Scotland Award for Best Actor in Television in 2020, is best known for his portrayal as Eric Effiong.

A British science-fiction television series called Doctor Who debuted on the BBC in 1963. The Doctor, an extraterrestrial who assumes the shape of a human, is a Time Lord from another planet whose exploits are chronicled in the show.

The Doctor travels the cosmos in the TARDIS, a time-traveling spaceship that takes the form of a vintage British police box. Since William Hartnell first played the Doctor in 1963, fourteen actors have played him.

The plot’s numerous role changes are a feature since the Doctor frequently regenerates whenever he sustains serious injuries and assumes a new shape.

While each actor’s interpretation of the Doctor is distinct, they all keep and make references to aspects of his prior incarnations in order to create a single lifespan with a unified story.

Gatwa’s tenure in the title character will begin in the Doctor Who 60th anniversary special, which will air in 2023 on BBC One in the UK and Disney+ globally.

While this is happening, prior seasons are broadcast on BBC America and may be seen online on HBO Max. Outside of the UK and Ireland, Disney+ will begin hosting all things Doctor Who in 2023.
