Black Adam Global Box Office Crosses $250 Million
DC Comics anti-hero Black Adam continues to dominate the box office. On...
Black Adam, DC’s most recent superhero movie, has reportedly been banned in China, which is the biggest overseas market for Hollywood movies. Fan forums say that Pierce Brosnan’s past comments about the Tibetan spiritual leader Dalai Lama are the reason for the ban. Tibet’s independence is a hot topic in China, and public figures who are seen to be close to the leader are often avoided in China.
Dwayne Johnson plays the title character, Adam, who is a bad guy. Since it came out last month, the movie has done well around the world, making over $200 million. Pierce Brosnan plays Doctor Fate in the movie, and Henry Cavill, who is back to play Superman in the DCEU, makes a cameo. The movie hasn’t come out in China yet, but there were hopes that it would later this year, which would help it make more money around the world.
But earlier this week, fan forums started talking about how it might be banned in China. An industry insider who went by the name Issac Newton on the forum Box Office Theory said that Black Adam would not be coming out in China. Later in the thread, someone said that the government has decided not to let the movie come out because Pierce, who has talked about meeting the Dalai Lama, is in it.
