  • ‘Avatar: The Way of Water’ received overwhelmingly positive reviews from critics.
  • Rotten Tomatoes has already given the film the status of “certified fresh”.
  • The seal is awarded when the vast majority of critics submit favourable reviews.

Avatar: The Way of Water‘ hasn’t even had its official premiere, but thanks to the overwhelmingly positive reviews it received from critics who saw early screenings, Rotten Tomatoes has already given the film the status of “certified fresh.”

The seal is awarded when the vast majority of critics submit favourable reviews, and so far more than 100 have been submitted.

The majority of them are favourable. The sequel currently has an 83% approval rating, which is already considered to be universally acclaimed. However, as more reviews start to come in, that percentage may rise.

The figure is unexpected but not exactly shocking: We were aware that Avatar: The Way of Water would be, at the very least, a breathtaking visual spectacle ever since the first teasers and trailers were released by 20th Century Studios.

It was also safe to assume that the director didn’t save only the best shots for the trailers given James Cameron’s body of work, the scope of other blockbusters like Titanic, Terminator: Judgement Day, and even the first Avatar.

The second Avatar movie, according to Collider’s own Ross Bonaime, was “one of the most breathtaking moviegoing experiences of 2022,” “a master learning from the mistakes of the previous film, and making a spectacle unlike we ever see at the movies anymore,” and other favourable reviews.

Avatar: The Way of Water, according to Bonaime, is evidence that you should “never bet against James Cameron.”

The journey of Avatar: The Way of Water is only just getting started, all things considered. The blockbuster still has a ways to go, and how the general public responds to it now should predict what kind of box office success the adventure will be.

The 2009 film Avatar continues to hold the record for being the highest-grossing film ever, and the new film aims to achieve the same box office success. The franchise is incredibly expensive to produce, and depending on how the upcoming instalments perform, there is a chance that we won’t get to see this story through to the very end, according to recent interviews with Cameron.

The film series is planned through Avatar 5, with the first act of Avatar 4 having already been shot, and Avatar 6 and 7 ideas circling in the director’s head.

At the same time, Cameron has completely mapped out the world of Pandora. It’s a big undertaking, and the second instalment will lay the groundwork for a plethora of story possibilities in the world of Pandora, much like Middle Earth keeps luring fans to new Lord of the Rings tales and a galaxy far, far away keeps producing Star Wars spin-offs.

We return to Pandora in Avatar: The Way of Water, fourteen years after the events of the first film. The cast had to learn deep diving in order to film underwater scenes for the sequel, which was shot in water tanks.

Sam Worthington, Zoe Saldana, Sigourney Weaver, Stephen Lang, Giovanni Ribisi, Joel David Moore, Dileep Rao, CCH Pounder, and Matt Gerald are among the cast members who are returning. Kate Winslet, Cliff Curtis, Edie Falco, Brendan Cowell, Jemaine Clement, Oona Chaplin, and CJ Jones are new cast members.

This Friday, December 16, sees the release of Avatar: The Way of Water in theatres.
