Daryl Dixon is a “Reset,” according to Norman Reedus

In The Walking Dead: Daryl Dixon, we learn that Daryl, played by Norman Reedus, is in France. We also know that the spinoff is linked to the mid-credits scene in The Walking Dead: World Beyond finale, in which a scientist watches videos about walker variant tests in an abandoned French lab. What we didn’t realize was that The Walking Dead: Daryl Dixon would be different from what we’ve come to expect.

According to Reedus in an interview with Entertainment Weekly, fans of the world of The Walking Dead may need to adjust their expectations for this new show because “it’s a reset,” rather than just a continuation.

Because The Walking Dead had such a large cast, according to Reedus, “you learn a lot of things…and there are certain paths that you inevitably have to go down” after 12 years on the show.

With Daryl Dixon from The Walking Dead, “There isn’t really that [a large cast] here. With all the things we loved doing and a whole lot more, it’s kind of a new beginning for us.”

Daryl will undoubtedly have a new beginning as he attempts to understand how he got to France and how to return home.

Fans must also get used to Daryl in his new surroundings as he travels through a France overrun with zombies. According to Reedus, the spinoff is set in Europe “The narrative includes history.

The walls all around us are covered in history. The sound of it all carries history. It feels very different. The elements of the show are present, but they have been taken and placed in an entirely different dimension.”

Daryl’s journey in a foreign land may be compared to Rick Grimes’ (Andrew Lincoln) journey. In the first episode of Season 1, Rick awoke in a world that was entirely different from the one he was used to and had to navigate it.

Even though the world Rick left behind was somewhat normal and free of zombies, witnessing Daryl go through a similar journey provides another chance for his character to develop.

The Walking Dead: Daryl Dixon is expected to be released in 2023, though there is no set date for it. Watch Collider for more information.
