Simon Cowell has revealed his unexpected friendship with Katie Piper and stated that she declined his job offer after the release of her documentary.
On Wednesday’s Loose Women, the music mogul, 63, reunited with Katie, 39, who acts as a panelist on the ITV morning talk program.
According to him, he became acquainted with Katie after contacting her after the 2009 publication of her Channel 4 documentary Katie: My Beautiful Face, in which she described her 2008 acid attack.
But it wasn’t all smooth sailing at first, as Simon admitted that Katie didn’t first think he was the one approaching her to discuss her project.
Katie turned down Simon’s employment offer after he had made numerous attempts to contact her before to their first meeting.
Simon, reminiscing about their encounter, remarked, “I saw her documentary and halfway through, you got the feeling it was going to end badly, that she was never going to leave her house again.
“I got so mad, I was phoning someone trying to get hold of someone from the show to get hold of her..”
However, Simon acknowledged that their first meeting led to a lasting friendship, saying, “It was the start of something amazing, the start of an amazing friendship.”
