Kevin Costner named best drama actor in GG’23
Fans will have to wait a while for the completion of season five of Yellowstone. On Sunday, at the midseason finale, Paramount Network announced that the blockbuster series will return with season 5 along with new episodes in the summer of 2023.
To hold fans over until then, the network released a brief teaser trailer featuring Kevin Costner as John Dutton, patriarch of the Dutton family.
Yellowstone, which also stars Luke Grimes, Kelly Reilly, Wes Bentley, and Cole Hauser, debuted in June 2018 to tremendous critical praise, earning nominations for the Emmys, Screen Actors Guild Awards, and Golden Globes.
The season 5 premiere in November 2022 smashed rating records with over 12 million viewers, making it the show’s largest premiere to date.
Several prequel series has been created as a result of the show’s popularity, including 1883 featuring real-life couple Tim McGraw and Faith Hill, which premiered in December 2021, and 1923 starring Harrison Ford and Helen Mirren, which premiered in December 2022.
A spinoff series dubbed 6666 was announced in February 2021, but its debut date is currently unknown.
During an interview with the media, Costner, 67, alluded to the future of the show by stating, “I think it’s safe to say the foot’s on the gas. We’re not slowing down.”
Hauser, 47, who portrays Rip, later confirmed to the media during the season 5 premiere of Yellowstone in New York City that “it’s not the last season.”
Costner told the media that the show’s deliberate world-building and character development are what “makes the show so successful.”
“I’ve always believed a good Western isn’t always just rushing towards its gunfight,” he said. “If you can create language and situations, and then you end up at a gunfight, I think it can be an amazing movie or TV show. But I think if you’re trying to get there so fast that you don’t understand the people, or it’s not complicated, then it’s a problem.”
Yellowstone is presently available to stream on Paramount+.
