The 93-year-old Barbara Walters is being memorialized by Paul McCartney. Nancy McCartney, McCartney’s wife, is Walters’ second cousin.

“Nancy and I are very grieved by the news of the demise of her cherished cousin Barbara Walters. I was honoured to share some of those precious times with them since the two of them had a long-lasting, very loving relationship, McCartney said on Facebook on Saturday.

Barbara was a remarkable woman who more than held her own in the early years of male-dominated television and went on to become a global icon known for her numerous insightful interviews with celebrities from all walks of life. She will be missed, but we will always cherish our memories of her.

On a 2007 edition of “The View,” Walters disclosed that trucking heiress Nancy Shevell is her second cousin. When Nancy, 63, and Paul, 80, started dating, Walters acted as the matchmaker.

“Her mother was my first cousin, and she passed away. And I have known this young lady well,” Walters remarked. “She’s divorced from her nice man of a husband. As a result of their failing marriage, they have separated.

2011 saw the couple’s spectacular wedding in London. Walters claimed to have shed tears throughout the hour-long “lovely and fantastic” ceremony at the time.

McCartney is one of countless celebrities who have honored the venerable journalist.

Oprah Winfrey shared a photo of herself and the late journalist on Instagram with the words, “Without Barbara Walters there wouldn’t have been me — nor any other woman you see on evening, morning, and daily news.”

Star Jones, who co-hosted “The View” with Walters when the program debuted in 1997, referred to Walters in a tweet on Friday as her “sister, mother, friend, colleague, and mentor.”

I owe Barbara Walters more than I could ever pay back, the 60-year-old lawyer continued. Sleep soundly.
