Prince Harry ‘roared’ at Meghan Markle’s royal Christmas present
Prince Harry and Meghan Markle celebrated Christmas 2020 with a low-key affair....
When Prince Harry and Meghan Markle were expecting their first child in 2019, the entire world was watching. As senior members of the royal family, fans were eager to see Baby Sussex.
Their lives, however, were very different when it came to welcoming their second child. The couple had left their royal roles and relocated to America, so the spotlight was less intense in the run-up to Lilibet’s arrival in June 2021.
In his memoir Spare, Harry recalls how they danced around the hospital room and ate burgers and fajitas during the first hours of labour.
When the doctor told them Lilibet was only a few minutes away from being born, Harry expressed his desire to be the first person his daughter saw.
He writes: “I cradled her just a moment, trying to smile at her, to see her, but honestly I couldn’t see anything.”
“Don’t be, don’t be, all will be well,” he said, wondering if she was scared. “I’ll keep an eye on you.”
Before they knew it, they were on their way home with their new addition, ready to begin a new chapter in their lives. In those first few hours as a family of four, Harry recalls a particularly special moment he shared with Meghan.
He claims that while they were skin-to-skin with Lili, Meghan exclaimed, “I’ve never been more in love with you than in that moment.”
But, unsure whether to believe her, Harry simply replied, “Really?” which she confirmed by repeating back to him.
Lilibet was born at 11:40 a.m., weighing 7 pounds and 11 ounces.
The couple kept Lilibet’s birth details private, with most of them unknown until Harry revealed them in his book in his own words. They did, however, issue a brief statement expressing their delight.
“On June 4th, we were blessed with the arrival of our daughter, Lili,” they said.
