SS Rajamouli was recently in the headlines after an old video of him comparing Hrithik Roshan to Prabhas surfaced online, and the filmmaker was chastised for his remark by a portion of social media users.

The filmmaker, who has been busy promoting his picture RRR in the United States ahead of the release of Oscar nominations for 2023, has now responded to his previous comment, in which he stated that ‘Hrithik is nothing in front of Prabhas’.

SS Rajamouli’s new video, in which he admits his “choice of words wasn’t excellent,” has now gone viral. Many people are now appreciating the director for admitting his mistake.

During a recent interview on the red carpet of the New York Film Critics Circle Awards, he spoke about his prior comment comparing Hrithik to Prabhas.

“It was long, long back… I think some 15-16 years back. But yeah, my choice of words of mine wasn’t good, I must admit it. My intention was never to degrade him, I respect him a lot. It is long back.”

In the old clip, which recently resurfaced on Reddit, Rajamouli said that Hrithik was “nothing” in comparison to Prabhas, saying, “When Dhoom 2 released two years ago, I wondered why only Bollywood can make such quality films. Don’t we have heroes like Hrithik Roshan? I just saw the songs, poster and trailer of Billa, and I can only say one thing. Hrithik Roshan is nothing in front of Prabhas. I’d like to thank Meher Ramesh (director) for taking Telugu cinema to Hollywood level,” he had said.

RRR, SS Rajamouli’s magnum opus, is one of the most successful Indian movies in recent years. On January 10, the Telugu film Naatu Naatu received a Golden Globe for Best Original Song.

The awards were attended by director SS Rajamouli and music composer MM Keeravani, as well as actors Ram Charan and Jr NTR. Photos and footage of team RRR’s red carpet interviews and victorious moments at the event, as well as their brief meeting with singer Rihanna, were widely circulated online.

Despite receiving financial and critical accolades, RRR was not picked as India’s official entry for the Best International Feature Film category at the Oscars in 2023. Pan Nalin’s Last Film Show has been nominated for Best International Film at the Academy Awards.
