Vishal Bhardwaj paid tribute to the late actor Irrfan Khan. They previously worked together on the 2004 criminal drama Maqbool, 7 Khoon Maaf in 2011, the 2014 political action thriller Haider, and Vishal’s 2015 production Talvar. “In every film, you miss Irrfan. I make every film I see, and when I see good cinema, I miss Irrfan. That is the most significant loss, both personally and for the industry as a whole,” says Vishal Bhardwaj.

Currently, the filmmaker is promoting his son Aasmaan Bhardwaj’s directorial debut, which stars Arjun Kapoor, Naseeruddin Shah, Tabu, Konkona Sensharma, Kumud Mishra, Radhika Madan, and Shardul Bhardwaj. Meanwhile, Vishal and his film’s lead actor, Arjun Kapoor, discuss the current status of the film industry and what we’ve learned from last year.

“It’s absolutely a new phase, it’s a new audience, a new audience’s thought process – they are considerably more schooled in other sorts of information, and different ways of watching material. It’s no longer only the huge screen. Being at home has influenced their taste, as has their method of consuming entertainment. But, more importantly, it’s what we were doing; we need to adapt and adjust since our audience has grown. Also, we need to give our viewers more credit for being rational and clever. “I believe Kuttey is such kind of cinema,” Arjun Kapoor says.

According to the actor, in every job, one must continue to study. “In our profession, this is especially true because the stakes are rising. It is incredibly expensive to make films, and it is even more expensive to get people to see them. So you’re dealing in a situation where the stakes are rising as a result of what’s going on in the world. Because life is expensive, you must give folks the most bang for their cash. However, you must also be aware of your target audience. “I think we’re slightly estranged from our audience now because of the last two years, when people weren’t coming to theatres but were watching stuff at home,” adds the director.
