Abhishek Bachchan recalls his red carpet with Aishwarya at Cannes

• Abhishek Bachchan was asked if he had ever ‘put restrictions on wife Aishwarya Rai’.

Abhishek Bachchan was asked in a 2012 interview if he had ever ‘put restrictions on wife Aishwarya Rai’. The actor then stated that only a man who was ‘insecure’ or did not ‘trust her’ would do something like that.

Abhishek went on to say that he was frequently asked how it felt to ‘walk the red carpet with your wife at Cannes,’ and that he found ‘this attitude to be chauvinistic’.

Abhishek Bachchan also questioned why Aishwarya could ‘attend all his events’ while he couldn’t accompany his wife to support her.

The actor slammed those who believed that because he was the husband, he should not accompany his wife to public appearances about her.

Aishwarya Rai became the first Indian to open the Cannes Film Festival in 2005; since then, she has attended the high-profile event almost every year, sometimes accompanied by Abhishek.

Aishwarya and Abhishek appeared together on the red carpet for the first time after their April 2007 wedding at the Cannes Film Festival in May 2007.

In 2012, Abhishek told Filmfare, “If a man attempts to restrain his wife, there must be two reasons. First and foremost, he is insecure. Second, he does not have faith in her. I am a confident person who has complete faith in my wife.

So why should I have any issues? And why just the wife? If a man tries to restrain his girlfriend, mother, or any girl, he is either insecure or does not trust them.

That is not how I was raised. My mother was an actress who was always on the go. I’m frequently asked how it feels to walk the Cannes red carpet with your wife. This attitude strikes me as chauvinistic.”

The actor further said, “It means that you are the husband so how can you walk with her? Do you ever ask Aishwarya why she walks the red carpet with me at the premieres of my films? She attends all my events, but I cannot accompany her. That’s wrong. If my wife supports me, then it’s my duty to support her.”

Abhishek and Aishwarya Rai have a daughter named Aaradhya Bachchan, who turned 11 last year. Aishwarya Rai Bachchan was most recently seen in Mani Ratnam’s magnum opus Ponniyin Selvan: I (2022), while Abhishek was most recently seen in Breathe: Into The Shadows season 2. (2022).
