Fortune teller told Matthew McConaughey to watch “How to Lose Guy in 10 Days”
Matthew McConaughey’s career was altered by “How to Lose a Guy in 10 Days,” and he can thank a fortune teller for that.
The 53-year-old recently revealed that while considering whether or not to join the 2003 romantic comedy, the universe gave him a sign.
The actor recalled, “I remember thinking about whether I was going to do it or not one night while on a walk down Sunset Boulevard. “Suddenly, a fortune teller who was a guru approaches me and asks, “Can I tell you your fortune real quick?”
“Yeah, man,” he continued, “I was like that. Sure.’ He instantly responds, “There’s a movie you’re now considering. It’s a comedic romance. You must act now, or you will live with one of your worst regrets. It’s going to be a ton of fun, an amazing experience, and it’s going to be very profitable.
The advice stuck with McConaughey, despite his initial belief that the “studio” hired the mystery man to influence his choice.
The Oscar winner admitted, “I chuckled at the concept, but I also recall giving it more serious thought. I believe I even said yes to the offer the following day.
However, McConaughey’s legendary performance is due to more than just the fortune teller. Kate Hudson claims that Gwyneth Paltrow initially intended to take on the role of Andie Anderson.
But after plans fell through, Hudson agreed to take on the role, and it was she who suggested McConaughey play Benjamin Barry.
“We were discussing who would be the right guy while looking at guys. Guy was incredibly essential to me. When Matthew was mentioned in the meeting, I felt it was a terrific idea. I admired his vigor. We just naturally clicked,” the 43-year-old revealed.
Although Hudson claimed that there is “nothing in works” regarding a potential sequel, the movie’s 20th anniversary is the following week.
