Faraaz, a recent film by Hansal Mehta, had a limited release earlier this month. Bangladesh has now banned the online streaming of the movie. According to reports, there is currently no ban on the movie’s theatrical release because their censor board has not yet made a determination regarding the movie’s certification.

In response to a writ petition, the Bangladesh High Court’s panel of justices Md. Khasruzzaman and Md. Iqbal Kabir issued the order on Monday, according to an AIR report on Tuesday. The petition was submitted by one Ruba Ahmad, the mother of Abinta Kabir, who died in the 2016 Holy Artisan terrorist incident.

The movie is based on the terror incident that took place in Dhaka’s bakery in July 2016 and resulted in the deaths of 29 people. As soon as the Faraaz trailer surfaced online, Ruba reportedly filed a lawsuit to prevent the movie’s release in Bangladesh on the grounds that it portrays Abinta’s character “in a disparaging manner,” according to the AIR report. She allegedly added in her plea that Bangladesh’s law enforcement institutions were also painted in a negative light, which could harm the country’s prestige.

Zahan Kapoor portrays Faraaz Hossain, one of the victims, in the February 3 release Faraaz. Zahan is Shashi Kapoor, the late actorgrandson. ,’s “A single film has been four years in the making, while the two-hour feature was made in just 23 days. A more rewarding and worthwhile experience than making my debut movie is beyond my wildest dreams. Any outcome for the movie is a bonus. The experience of working with people who are as enthusiastic as I am and who want to give their all to bring a tale to life is one that I couldn’t have imagined being any better, Zahan had said to PTI prior to the movie’s release.

Aditya Rawal, a son of Paresh Rawal, plays the terrorist Nibras in Faraaz. In a previous interview with PTI, Aditya had discussed the movie and said that if a director like Hansal gives a project, actors can only seize the chance, appreciate the responsibility, and give it their all. Moreover, he had stated, “For me, the biggest issue was how do you, as an actor, trust what this character is saying and doing, because it is far from me, my reality, and my worldview.”
