Paul Mescal 27, explained in an interview with The Hollywood Reporter that people often get confused by his last name, “Mescal,” which he claims is pronounced with a softer “s” and “a.” The disclosure was made at the beginning of a video interview with the magazine, in which the Oscar candidate explained the entire pronunciation, even likening the sound of his last name to that of a particular alcoholic beverage.

He explained that the mispronunciation of his name was caused by the beverage mezcal. “Everyone practices it. I pronounce it “Mescal,” and I wonder if I have to name my tequila line “Mescal’s Mezcal” if I were to start one. I am undecided.” Because to his performance in Aftersun, Mescal is presently a Best Actor contender for the Academy Awards.

Brendan Fraser, who played Brendan in The Whale, is also nominated in this category. Brendan Fraser stated on Variety’s Actors on Actors with Adam Sandler that, contrary to what some of his fans have believed for years, his name actually rhymes with the word “razor.” A few celebrities who lately had to explain their name pronunciations include Fraser and Mescal.

The genuine pronunciation of Chrissy Teigen’s last name was revealed in a video she tweeted in 2018, shocking fans. She revealed that it is actually “tie-gen” instead of “tee-gen.”
