Braden Fraser after winning Best Actor at the 95th Academy Awards for his ground-breaking performance in The Whale, Branden Fraser was unable to control his tears. The Mummy star, who was holding the renowned golden trophy, appeared visibly moved by his victory as he gave an impassioned statement during the event.

Fraser began his acceptance speech with the comment, “So this is what the universe looks like,” as he made his big-screen comeback after a long absence with the Darren Aronofsky movie. “My God, I thank the Academy for this distinction and our studio A24 for producing such a daring movie. The actor remarked, “I am thankful to [director] Darren Aronofsky for flinging me a creative lifeline and bringing me aboard the good ship The Whale.

While thanking his fellow candidates Austin Butler, Colin Farrell, Paul Mescal, and Bill Nigh for exposing “[their] whale-sized hearts naked so that we may look into your souls like no one else could do,” Fraser said, “It was penned by Samuel D. Hunter, who is our lighthouse.”

In addition to calling it a “honor” to be nominated alongside them, Fraser singled out Hong Chau, saying, “Only whales can swim at the depth of the ocean.”

“I began working in this industry 30 years ago, and while things did not always come naturally to me, there was a facility that I did not realize the value of until it ceased. And I simply want to express my gratitude for this acknowledgment “said Fraser.

“Because my cast would make it impossible to do it. It is been like I have been on a diving trip to the bottom of the ocean, and some individuals in my life are keeping an eye on the air on the line to the surface on the launch.
