On Jimmy Fallon‘s The Tonight Show In a brief skit with host Jimmy Fallon on Friday, creators Kenan Thompson and Kel Mitchell revealed that they are starting a follow-up to their 1997 Nickelodeon feature Good Burger.

In the film, Dexter Reed (Thompson) and the original cashier Ed (Mitchell) “reunite in the present day at fast food restaurant Good Burger with a funny new bunch of employees,” according to a press release.

The premiere, which will only air on Paramount+, is scheduled for later this year and is expected to start production in May.

It is hard to think that Good Burger was where excellent customer service began more than 25 years ago. According to Thompson’s statement. “I feel incredibly proud to have contributed to something that so many generations of people have grown to adore, and it seems surreal to be working on the sequel back where it all started! I enjoy performing with my brother Kel and am eager to reveal to the audience the latest adventures of these characters.

Ed is one of those classic characters that has provided fans a lot of happiness and fun, and it is such a wonderful privilege to still be doing it after all these years, Mitchell continued. It is fantastic to return and carry on.

In Good Burger 2, the press release claims, “As yet another of Dexter Reed’s innovations fails, he finds himself in bad straits. Dex gets given his old job back by Ed when he returns to Good Burger. Dex creates a strategy to get back on his feet with a new crew working at Good Burger, but unwittingly endangers the future of the restaurant once more in the process.”

The script will be written by Kevin Kopelow and Heath Seifert, who will also act as executive producers. James III has been hired as a writer, and Phil Traill will serve as the director.

During a performance on The Tonight Show in August, Thompson, 44, most recently hinted at a potential Good Burger sequel when Fallon asked the longtime Saturday Night Live performer

Dexter initially presents a challenge to Ed, but later joins forces with him to bring down a rival burger restaurant that is being run by a rapacious conglomerate. Of course, this leads to them becoming the best of friends.

Mitchell previously revealed to about a prospective sequel that the cast of the original film “did meet up to chat about some ideas for Good Burger 2.”

At the time, he remarked, “So we are still trying to flesh it out, we are trying to put it together. “We want it to be as enjoyable for everyone as it was the first time, while also appealing to both the young and the old generations. To ensure that we do that task, that is all it has been.
