Kumar Sanu cites actor and director meddling as a major issue

According to Kumar Sanu, when a singer sings a song, there is a lot of involvement from everyone, including actors, directors, and even financiers. Additionally, he said that he had never even seen the actor when he was recording songs in his earlier years.

After beginning his career as a playback singer in the late 1980s, Kumar Sanu became one of Bollywood’s most popular vocalists in the 1990s. According to reports, he has contributed his voice to almost 21,000 songs in a variety of languages, including Bengali, his native tongue, as well as Hindi, Marathi, Assamese, Bhojpuri, Manipuri, Nepali, Malayalam, Tamil, Telugu, Punjabi, Odia, and English, to name a few.

According to Kumar Sanu’s interview with Indian Express, he hardly saw the actor when most of the songs he has recorded were being recorded. “The absence of intrusion was the most lovely thing back then. It was hoped that you would complete the task at hand with honor. Nobody would step in and direct you, saying, “Do it this way or that way.” If Nadeem-Shravan composed the score, the director would only select the songs he desired. That interference is a huge problem today. Suddenly, everyone is interfering, including the actor, producer, financier, and director. They instruct the musician, “You only make the tune, the rest will be done.” Yet earlier, this wasn’t the case.

The singer added that the labor was “clearly split, no one tried to do each other’s work” and that earlier, vocalists did not communicate with the actor about the way they will perform songs. Also, according to Kumar Sanu, any interference was avoided as a result of the precise and reliable job division. He continued, “Filmmakers had trust that (for instance), if Nadeem-Shravan were creating the music, it would be good; or if Kumar Sanu was singing, he would do a good job. “That assurance no longer exists.”

According to Kumar Sanu, these days, “8–10 singers record a song,” and no one can predict which version will end up on the album for the movie.
