Jemima Goldsmith debut film “What’s Love Got To Do With It?” has garnered rave reviews in the UK and is set to be released in Pakistan.
In a special interview to Bol News correspondent Moin Zubair, she opened up on wide range of issues including the love for Pakistan. She said the film was inspired by her ten years of living in Pakistan and she wanted to make a film which celebrated Pakistan on the world stage.
Jemima said that Pakistan is unfortunately shown on the big screen in a negative light which is very depressing and leaves fans worried about the events taking place in the country.
Therefore, she said that the she wanted to depict the vibrant colours of Lahore and the scenic beauty and culture in her film. She hoped that Pakistanis will like her efforts.
She said she is grateful for the love received from Pakistanis and hope they understand her intention behind making the film. She said her sons Qasim and Sulaiman also liked the movie very much after watching it and are proud of it.
When asked on her preference for arranged or love marriages, She replied she doesn’t advocate either but said there is tendency in the West to disapprove arranged marriage.
“I don’t think one is necessarily better than the other. People who don’t know Pakistanis consider it an outdated tradition,” she said.
She mentioned that Royal Family was having arranged marriage till the last generation and even dating apps are being used to choose partners. Therefore, she said her film focuses on both methods.
When asked about the reason why she is still in love with Pakistan, Jemima said she said a lot of support from Pakistanis. “I get so much love from Pakistanis, way more than I get here. This is inspired by my ten years of living in Pakistan,” she said.
Jemima said she had a great experience of working with Pakistani artists. “I like Sajal Aly a lot. She is a great actress and very talented. I think she is a real superstar.”
Jemima Khan said she has been collecting funds to help the flood victims in Pakistan. She is also spreading awareness on climate change.
“What’s Love Got To Do With It?” stars Shahzad Latif, Emma Thompson, Lily James, Sajal Aly, and Shabana Azmi. The film explores the practice of arranged marriages in South Asian households.
