Charlie Puth released the trailer for his highly-anticipated six-episode series “The Charlie Puth Show” last month. He recently shared his experience filming the series, revealing that he feels comfortable joking about himself. Excitement for the show is building fast!
In his latest Roku mockumentary, Charlie Puth offers a comedic behind-the-scenes look at the life of a pop star, portraying a fictionalized version of himself. The series also features cameo appearances from the legendary Will Ferrell, beloved Courteney Cox, and iconic John Legend. Keep reading for more details!
In a recent interview, Charlie Puth discussed his experience filming his new mockumentary series. The official synopsis reveals that the show follows a fictionalized version of Puth, who, with support from his famous friends, navigates the cultural landscape to expand beyond pop stardom. After being told that being just a musician is no longer enough, he strives to become a multi-hyphenate talent.
The hitmaker behind “Dangerously” shared his desire for the show to feel natural. He acknowledged that, as a non-actor, delivering lines could sound rigid, so the team opted for a more spontaneous approach. He emphasized that everyone involved in the series, from the cast to the crew, had a fantastic time, and he relished stepping out of his comfort zone. The outlet also highlighted Puth’s humility, noting that he considered it an “honor” to be humorously “roasted” by guest star Will Ferrell in the show’s first episode.
The singer revealed that he wrote lines on the spot, thinking it would be funny for his character to say that “Shawn Mendes is the better version” of him. He explained that he has “no problem” making fun of himself, noting that he approaches it lightly and sees it as a way to keep things fun.
The hitmaker behind “Attention” noted that many serious issues exist in the world, so it’s nice to have some “comic relief.” He believes that incorporating humor and self-deprecation into his music helps him connect with his audience and offers a break from the seriousness of life, encouraging them not to take themselves too seriously.
Charlie Puth humbly added, “Nobody wants to see a successful artist make a self-righteous, grandiose, ‘Look at me…’ Maybe people want to see that, but I don’t know if people want to see that from me.”
Puth admitted that the character is “99%” like him, though he expressed uncertainty about whether he is as audibly loud and quirky as the one he plays in the show. He noted that he enjoys entertaining people, which is why he created the series, sharing his desire for viewers to laugh and enjoy watching it.
The six-episode series “The Charlie Puth Show” is now available for streaming on The Roku Channel. Get ready for a dose of laughter and fun!
