Earlier in the day, the doting sister, Soha, was seen visiting the hospital with her husband, Kunal Kemmu, to check on her brother. Along with them, Saif’s mother, legendary actress Sharmila Tagore, and Saif’s children, Taimur and Jeh, visited their father at the hospital for the first time.
In the early hours of Thursday, January 16, the Dil Chahta Hai actor was attacked at his Bandra residence during an attempted robbery. He was immediately rushed to Lilavati Hospital, accompanied by his son, Taimur Ali Khan, and another person.
In the course of the investigation, Mumbai Police arrested a man identified as Mohammad Shariful Islam Shehzad earlier in the day. During a press conference, police officials revealed that Shehzad, a Bangladesh national, had changed his name to Vijay Das after illegally entering India. The police also stated that the 30-year-old entered Saif’s house intending to commit a robbery.
DCP Zone 9 Dixit Gedam said, “He was using Vijay Das as his current name. He came to Mumbai 5–6 months ago. He stayed in Mumbai for a few days and then in the vicinity of Mumbai. The accused used to work in a housekeeping agency,” he added.
Following the arrest, the police presented him in Bandra court, where the court sent him to 5-day police custody.
