Aishwarya Rai looks stunning as she shares pics with Mani Ratnam
Aishwarya Rai and Ponniyin Selvan I director Mani Ratnam have exchanged a few candid photos on social media. The images show Aishwarya smiling with Mani Ratnam on stage during the film’s Delhi promotions on Monday, decked up in a rich blue and golden anarkali.
In Ponniyin Selvan I, Aishwarya plays Nandini, the Pazhuvoor queen who is the wife of Periya Pazhuvettaraiyar and the love interest of Adithya Karikalan. Only at the very end is her dual role made clear.
Along with the film’s director Mani Ratnam, composer AR Rahman, co-stars Vikram, Trisha, and others, Aishwarya actively marketed the movie over several days. At various events, she was also observed stroking his feet. On Friday, the movie in Tamil, Telugu, Hindi, Kannada, and Malayalam was launched in theaters. On the first day, it brought in about 10 crore in India.
The movie’s review referred to Aishwarya as a revelation. It read: “Aishwarya Rai as Nandini has to be the pick of the actors as she has very little to say in terms of dialogues but has so much to express with her eyes and she nails it so convincingly”.
The fourth movie Aishwarya has made with Mani Ratnam is Ponniyin Selvan I. With his Tamil-language film Iruvar, the former Miss World made her film debut in 1997. In her husband Abhishek Bachchan’s 2007 film Guru, she had a supporting role. Raavan, her third movie with Mani Ratnam, she starred alongside Vikram, the character she once dated in Ponniyin Selvan I. In Raavan, Abhishek played the bad guy.
Ponniyin Selvan I, directed by Mani Ratnam, has been in development for a while. It is based on the 1955 novel by Kalki Krishnamurthy that tells the history of the early reign of Arulmozhivarman, a strong king of the south who later rose to become Rajaraja Chola I, the great Chola emperor.
Aishwarya described working with the director as “always a dream-like experience” and gave him credit for helping her develop as a performer during a promotional event. “He is the perfect school and guru. I didn’t come with any formal training. I just dived right into it all. I got to work with him. A lot of it is spiritual and divine and a lot of it is work ethic,” she said about Mani Ratnam.
