Double XL makes Romi Bhatia dewy-eyed of being body-shamed

Kapil Dev, a former cricketer for India, and his wife Romi Bhatia recently attended a special screening of the upcoming movie Double XL. Romi is seen addressing the cast of the movie in a video uploaded by a paparazzo account that the story reminded her of her own horrific experiences with body-shaming as a child. Sonakshi Sinha, Huma Qureshi, Zaheer Iqbal, and other Double XL celebrities.

In the Satramm Ramani-directed film Double XL, Huma and Sonakshi Sinha play two plus-sized women who fight against a culture that labels people according to their body types. Prior to the movie’s premiere, a special screening for some celebrities was held in Mumbai, where many renowned filmmakers attended. In a recent video, Romi can be seen giving the film’s crew her review as Kapil and she leave the theatre after seeing it again.

Saqib Saleem, Huma’s brother and the movie’s producer, is shown in the video accompanying Kapil before the former cricketer meets his wife Romi and introduces Saqib, Huma, and Sonakshi. Praising the film, Romi tells the actors, “You girls have lived my life. When we met (points at Kapil), I was that size. I wanted to cry because when we got engaged, people would say he is marrying that aunty. I swear, I have lived it. I loved every minute of your film. I was poking him saying, ‘hamari yaad nahi aayi’ (didn’t you get reminded of us).”

Romi referred to the movie as a “must watch,” and she added that she had already emailed the actors in a few of her WhatsApp groups to encourage them to see the movie. Earlier, the movie’s director, Farah Khan, had also given it high marks for being relevant. In a video from the film’s special screening for directors, Farah said, “Being a double XL myself, and I thought the boys were very cute also, the girls were wonderful but the boys were very cute also.” She further said, “I think all of us who are constantly dieting or trying to lose weight or everybody, all of us will identify with it.”

On November 4, Double XL will be seen in theatres. Shikhar Dhawan, a cricket player, makes his first appearance in a movie in addition to Huma, Sonakshi, and Zaheer.
