Raj Kundra, a businessman, and Shilpa Shetty’s husband, received respite in the pornographic case on Tuesday when the Supreme Court granted anticipatory bail to him and four other defendants. Actors Sherlyn Chopra and Poonam Pandey are among the others who received relief from the supreme court. They are accused of sharing obscene movies in this FIR case.
Justices K M Joseph and B V Nagarathna’s bench issued a similar directive to all of the accused on Tuesday. “Having heard the counsel for the parties, we are of the view that the petitioners may be granted anticipatory bail,” the bench said.
A chargesheet has already been filed in the case, according to senior attorney R. Basant. Who was representing one of the defendants, and the defendants are assisting the investigation. Moreover, Raj had already received temporary protection from arrest in the case from the Supreme Court.
Raj, who is wed to Shilpa Shetty, an actor, was detained in the case in July 2021 and later released on bail. After a woman approached the police and made specific accusations, a FIR was filed against Raj and the other defendants. The Mumbai Crime Branch received the case as a transfer. In addition to sections of the Information Technology Act and the Indecent Representation of Women (Prohibition) Act, Raj was charged with violating Indian Penal Code sections 420 (cheating), 292 and 293 (relating to obscene and indecent advertisements and exhibitions). Sherlyn Chopra and Poonam Pandey were included as co-accused in the FIR.
Even though the performers, who were designated as co-accused, had given their full approval to shoot the movies, his attorneys argued that he was in no way related to the content creation, publication, or transmission of the allegedly illegal recordings.
Raj has maintained a low profile ever since getting his bail and only occasionally shows up in public while wearing a complete face mask. He responded to the situation with a rare social media post in September. Raj published a photo of himself with the comment, “One Year Today released from #ArthurRoad Its a matter of time Justice will be served! The truth will be out soon! Thank you well-wishers and a bigger thank you to the trollers you make me stronger (folded hands emoji).”
