Shangela and Gleb react upon performing on “DWTS” while wearing the chicken

On “Dancing with the Stars” on Monday night, Shangela finished her meal. Ever the entertainer, the “RuPaul’s Drag Race” star took two portions of “crispy fried chicken” hidden in ziplock bags out of her outfit to personally gift head judge Len Goodman after her and Gleb Savchenko’s dance. Yes, you read that correctly.

Tyra Banks, the host, unveiled the surprise gift, asked Goodman if her legs were “crispy” (a remark he made last week), then took a taste of the chicken from one of the bags.

In an interview with the media following the Michael Bublé-themed performance, Savchenko remarked of his partner, “I didn’t know [she was doing that] until the end.”

“Shangela had confetti at the start of the song. She performed the entire act after exiting the red carpet. In light of this, before the dance, I noticed something tucked in [her dress] and thought, “Oh, maybe it’s the glitter,” he continued. Then, it was fried chicken, not chicken.

Shangela admitted that she kept it a secret from her professional partner on purpose since she anticipated that the concept wouldn’t be well received by him.

“I didn’t tell him because, as a choreographer, I know he is laser-focused on me just focusing on the moves and the technique,” she explained.

“And I wanted to definitely be laser-focused on that, but, you know, I’m Shangela. I like to bring a little fun, a little spontaneity, a little surprise, and it was one for him, too.”

While speaking with reporters in the ballroom, Shangela, who grew up in Paris, Texas, acknowledged that her mother was the brains behind the hot concept.

“Listen, we’re Texans, OK?, my mom said. This is what you need to do if they want crispy legs, she recalled. “You need to take the really crispy legs up there,” my mother advised me. And what about that? I took that action.

She added, “I’m a Texan. I’m no stranger to having chicken close to my heart. And tonight, I delivered.”
