Leah Remini expressed her memories of the late actress Kirstie Alley who passed away at the age of 71.

Remini, 52, who had a long-running spat with the Look Who’s Talking actress over Scientology, said in an interview with Rolling Stone that the news of Kirstie Alley’s passing was “extremely sad.”

The Second Act actress continued by saying that she was thinking of Alley’s two Scientology-affiliated children, son William True Stevenson and daughter Lillie Price Stevenson, whom she had with her ex-husband Parker Stevenson.

“Although Scientologists don’t believe in prayers, my prayers do go out to her two children, who are now without their mom,” she said. “I hope they can, one day, free themselves of this dangerous and toxic organization.”

The It Takes Two actress passed away on Monday, December 5 following a brief fight with cancer, according to a statement from Alley’s family. Later, Alley’s rep disclosed that she had been recently diagnosed with colon cancer.

The former Cheers actor and the King of Queens alum had a rocky relationship for years because of their affiliation with the Church of Scientology. Remini left the group in 2013, but Alley stayed a steadfast believer until her passing.

Since leaving the organization, the Emmy winner has been candid about her time there, opening up about it in her novel Troublemaker: Surviving Hollywood and Scientology as well as her docuseries Leah Remini: Scientology and the Aftermath. She and fellow apostate Mike Rinder co-host the Scientology: Fair Game podcast.

Remini claimed on Ellen DeGeneres that she had “lost friends” as a result of her decision to leave the church, alluding to the group’s purported policy of “disconnection,” in which remaining members forbid one another from speaking to departing members.

Alley referred to Remini as a “bigot” for her remarks in a December 2013 interview with Howard Stern and asserted that “disconnection” is not actually practiced within the church. The Kansas native remarked at the time, “First of all, I just want to let everyone know that I have hundreds of friends and people that I know that have joined Scientology and left Scientology. The statement that you cannot leave is untrue. You are not being avoided or pursued. All of that is nonsense.

She continued, saying that she hadn’t seen Remini in almost ten years because they were both busy and not because the Second Act actress had stopped attending services. The truth is, according to Alley, “I don’t think I’ve seen Leah in seven or eight years, not for any other purpose than I’m acting, and she’s acting.” I didn’t care whether she was inside or outside.

Remini claimed to have “comprehended” Alley’s perspective two years later. She informed Stern, 68, in November 2015, “I know the policy.” “I understand why she believes she is angry with me, and I understand once more that hiding behind that mask is against company policy. They view me as a foe.

Alley’s partner on two seasons of Dancing with the Stars, Maksim Chmerkovskiy, also got involved, alleging Alley stopped communicating to him because of his connection with Remini. In 2016, he told Us Weekly, “A note was written to a buddy notifying me I was “disconnected,” as in, I am no longer permitted to be Kirstie’s friend.” I think it’s absurd that an adult would ‘disconnect’ from someone. However, everyone has a right to their own lunacy.

Meanwhile, Alley and Remini had another argument earlier this year after Alley gained attention for her tweet about whether the Russian invasion of Ukraine was “genuine” or “fake.” So, why won’t @kirstiealley comment on Putin, who is a terrible tyrant, despite the fact that she has no knowledge of mental health, psychiatric medications, or virology? In February, Remini tweeted. “No remarks on Russia’s invasion of Ukraine? Murdering innocent people? Are Ukrainians being uprooted?

I don’t care what the punk ass twats say, Alley, replied in her own tweet. I’ll keep saying prayers for the people of Ukraine. You and I both pray to the same God. So stop being such a jerk.
