Following his appearance as DC’s electric superhero in the upcoming Shazam! One of Zachary Levi’s upcoming, high-profile films, Fury of the Gods, will include him playing a real-life persona. In the survival thriller Not Without Hope, a true story based on Jere Longman’s self-titled New York Times best-selling book, Levi has been cast in the starring role.

Levi will portray Nick Schuyler, one of a group of best friends that also included Will Bleakley, NFL players Marquis Cooper and Corey Smith, and who left Clearwater, Florida for a day trip to their preferred fishing port 70 miles out in the Gulf of Mexico when they encountered a fierce storm; Schuyler was the only survivor.

The movie will show the terrifying predicament that the friends encountered when the storm caught their anchor, capsized their boat, and “throw[ed] the four companions forcibly into the frigid water.” The severity of the enormous storm greatly reduces their chances of survival by impeding the U.S. Coast Guard’s ability to conduct an air and sea rescue mission. Levi stated he was “very honored to be part of this deeply emotional project” when asked about his new position. It’s crucial to tell the heartbreaking genuine story of loss and bravery found in “Not Without Hope.”

Levi’s breakthrough performance as Chuck Bartow on NBC’s popular action comedy Chuck brought him a number of honours, including the Teen Choice Award for Choice TV Actor. As a member of the ensemble cast of the historical comedy-drama series The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel, he most recently won a Screen Actors Guild Award. Levi is also well-known for his work as the titular DC character in Shazam! and its upcoming sequel, which will be released the following month. He was Josh Dallas’ replacement in Thor: Dark World and Thor: Ragnarok, where Marvel fans will also recognize him as Fandral.

The actor just finished filming for the movies Harold and the Purple Crayon, The Unbreakable Boy, and Spy Kids: Armageddon, one of his most eagerly awaited projects that will serve as a remake of the original Spy Kids franchise. Levi has certainly been keeping busy.

The second attempt to adapt the tragic tale is Joe Carnahan’s Not Without Hope. In the past, Miles Teller, who was cast to play Nick Schuyler in Top Gun: Maverick, and English director Rupert Wainwright were working on the project, but it was never released. The movie will be produced by Carnahan, who will also act as the writer and director. The director has collaborated with a number of well-known professionals in the industry, including Mel Gibson on Hulu’s Boss Level, Bradley Cooper on The A-Team, and Liam Neeson in the action movie The Grey. The Blacklist and State of Affairs, two critically praised TV shows, are among Carnahan’s works. When discussing the film’s production, Carnahan said:

“Nick Schuyler’s grueling trial at sea and his ultimate survival is a deeply inspiring tale of determination and perseverance but we have a much greater responsibility with this movie as it will hopefully serve as a lasting memorial to the men who lost their lives alongside him during that terrible ordeal. We have to honor their final sacrifice and never lose sight of the larger moral obligation we have as filmmakers with Not Without Hope.”

With Carnahan at the helm, Not Without Hope has a sizable production team that also includes Volition Media representatives Michael Jefferson, Adam Beasley, and Cindy Bru. There are also Rick French of Prix Productions and Highland Film Group, Kia Jam of K. Jam Media, Dean Altit of Altit Media Group, and Kia Jam of K. Jam Media. Wes Hull, Dave Lugo, Mark Fasano, and Ford Corbett served as the movie’s executive producers.

Louisiana will host the start of Not Without Hope’s production in April. The movie’s worldwide rights will be managed by Highland Film Group, and sales will begin at the forthcoming European Film Market. The domestic rights will be handled by CAA Media Finance.
