The actor-wrestler Dave Bautista recently confirmed that his upcoming film would be a follow-up to the 2020 family comedy, My Spy, and that production would start this month. My Spy: The Eternal City is currently in pre-production, according to Prime Video, and will soon have a cast that includes Anna Faris (Overboard, Mom), Craig Robinson (This Is the End, Morris from America), and Flula Borg (The Suicide Squad, Pitch Perfect: Bumper in Berlin).

Together with returning My Spy cast members Chloe Coleman (Avatar: The Way of Water, Marry Me), Kristen Schaal (What We Do in the Shadows, Bob’s Burgers), and Ken Jeong, the trio of skilled comedic actors (Tom & Jerry, The Hangover). What parts these new members of the ensemble will perform are still unknown.

My Spy’s first installment was about “a hardened CIA operative [who] finds himself at the mercy of a precocious 9-year-old girl, having been placed undercover to surveil her family,” according to the official synopsis. Coleman portrayed the young child Sophie, and Bautista, of course, was JJ, a CIA agent. According to reports, My Spy: The Eternal City would pick up with Sophie, now a teenager, convincing JJ to supervise a school trip to Italy (and specifically, we can suppose, to Rome, frequently referred to as “The Eternal City”). Inevitably, things don’t go as planned, and JJ and Sophie are forced to foil a global terrorist conspiracy that targets Colin, Sophie’s best friend, and his father, who also happens to be CIA Director David Kim (Jeong).

Before the epidemic, the first My Spy was supposed to be released in theatres. But, Amazon chose to stream it, and, according to the entertainment data analysis company Screen Engine, it became the third most-watched subscription video-on-demand (SVOD) released movie of 2020. The sequel, which will also be made by Amazon Studios, is anticipated to premiere on Prime Video.

Peter Segal (Grudge Match, Get Smart) will once again helm My Spy: The Eternal City, after a script written by Jon and Erich Hoeber (The Meg, Battleship). In addition, Billy Barratt (Invasion, Blinded by the Light), Taeho K (The Mandalorian, Colony), Nicola Correia-Damude (Resident Alien, The Boys), Noah Dalton Danby (Titans, Shadowhunters), and Devere Rogers (Honk for Jesus) will reprise their roles from the first My Spy. Will & Grace’s Save Your Soul).

The Estate, which also starred Toni Collette and David Duchovny, was Faris’ most recent film role. Currently, Robinson is doing the voice of “Principal Nelson” for the animated series Moon Girl and Devil Dinosaur from Marvel. Jeong made an appearance earlier this year in The Afterparty’s second season on Apple TV+.
