Accidents do occur! When Elizabeth Banks entered the stage to give the Best Visual Effects award at the 2023 Oscars, she tripped.

On Sunday, March 12, at the Dolby Theater in Los Angeles, the 49-year-old former star of The Hunger Games rushed to take the stage. Banks tripped over the long train of her floor-length black and white gown as she walked to the microphone.

She avoided falling, which allowed her to gracefully recover from the situation. A person dressed as a bear followed the Pitch Perfect star as she left the stage and accompanied her as she delivered the award.

She joked to the crowd, “Oh my God, he tripped me,” while also joking that visual effects were a requirement in the movie business, particularly for her newest feature, Cocaine Bear, which she directed.

Starring in the suspenseful film were Keri Russell and the late Ray Liotta, who was remembered during the evening’s In Memoriam segment.
