Barry Keoghan and Jenna Ortega, two of Hollywood’s most sought-after performers, have committed to their upcoming collaboration. The upcoming Trey Edward Shults-directed movie, which also stars Abel “The Weeknd” Tesfaye in his feature-length acting debut, reportedly “blew” both Ortega and Keoghan away with its storyline. The remarkable script shouldn’t come as much of a surprise to those who are familiar with Shults’ previously written films Waves and It Comes at Night as well as what we’ve seen thus far from the Tesfaye-created upcoming HBO series The Idol. Shults and Tesfaye also co-wrote the screenplay with Reza Fahim.

Despite the incredibly exciting casting news, there is still no word about the movie’s plot or title. We do know that Tesfaye, Fahim, Kevin Turen, and Harrison Kreiss are producing the film, and that Shults and Tesfaye have been carefully reading the script for the past few months. The executive producers will be Ortega and Shults.

Tesfaye and Shults have secured two major players for their upcoming project, with Ortega coming off an incredibly successful run on Netflix’s spooky-fun series Wednesday and Keoghan recently winning a BAFTA for his role in The Banshees of Inisherin, for which he is also nominated for an Academy Award. With the soon-to-be-released Scream VI, Ortega’s upcoming endeavour, she will engage Ghostface in a new standoff. On March 11, 2023, Ortega will begin hosting Saturday Night Live following the film’s release.

The next movie Keoghan will appear in after his part in the untitled Shults-directed film is Emerald Fennell’s (Promising Young Woman) Saltburn. It was also recently confirmed that the Irish actor will play opposite Christopher Abbott in Chris Andrews’ Bring Them Down, replacing Paul Mescal in that film.

Tesfaye, as was previously noted, has a busy year ahead of him with the HBO series The Idol’s impending launch. Tesfaye will play with Lily-Rose Depp in a drama about a budding entertainer’s participation with a contemporary cult that was co-written by Euphoria creator Sam Levinson and produced by Fahim. The Weeknd: Live at SoFi Stadium, the Grammy Award-winning musician’s HBO concert special, was just recently made available.
