A significant influence has been played by the Detective Pikachu sequel, a 2019 mega success from Legendary Pictures based on the well-known Pokémon property. According to the media, Jonathan Krisel, a co-creator of Portlandia, has been chosen to helm the second episode, checking off a significant box as the project’s production picks up.

According to the media, Chris Galletta, who wrote the screenplay for the 2019 independent film The Kings of Summer, will direct the movie under Krisel’s direction.

The first Detective Pikachu starred Ryan Reynolds as the voice of the titular Pokémon Pikachu. He becomes entangled in a mystery while attempting to solve the alleged murder of a well-known police detective but instead discovers a plot that could permanently alter the Pokémon universe. Details on the sequel are still scarce.

Justice Smith and Kathryn Newton were also featured in the Rob Letterman-directed movie. Reynolds will probably have a role in the sequel, according to insiders who spoke to the media, despite the fact that no casting for the new movie has been revealed.

As part of their prior agreement with Legendary, Warner Bros. released the original Detective Pikachu. As the second-highest-grossing video game adaptation of all time, the movie made nearly $430 million at the box office on a $150 million budget.

It should therefore come as no surprise that studio executives were eager to start production on a sequel since it was reportedly in the works even before the first movie was released.

Oren Uziel, who wrote 22 Jump Street, was said to be writing a screenplay at the time, but it appears Galletta has since taken over. It is unknown if any of Uziel’s script will be used because he was hired while Legendary was still bound by its agreement with Warner Bros. The studio has since inked a new multi-year distribution agreement with Sony.
