Peacock has ordered a 90-minute movie called Mr. Monk’s Final Case: A Monk Movie to replace the famous case-of-the-week series Monk, which ran for eleven years before it was canceled. The movie was created by the original creative team, and it will recast several of the original cast members. Soon after star Tony Shalhoub disclosed that the movie was in production, it was officially announced.

In Mr. Monk’s Final Case: A Monk Movie, Adrian Monk (Shalhoub), a San Francisco-based investigator with obsessive-compulsive disorder, will be seen attempting to solve one final, extremely personal case involving his cherished step-daughter Molly, a journalist who is getting ready for her wedding. In his remarks, Shalhoub had mentioned that a Monk movie was in the works and that it would take place after Covid. Shalhoub chuckled as he thought of what a post-Covid setting would entail for the character given Monk’s obsessive-compulsive tendencies.

Mystery-of-the-week TV shows like Monk, Castle, Psych, and now Poker Face have always been favorites among viewers because they can present fresh angles on mysteries with each new episode, and it’s also satisfying to solve a mystery with the characters you’re watching. Fans of Mr. Monk will be eager to embark on one final case-solving adventure with him as he seeks to piece together clues in the next film.

The next film contains the heart and fun of the series, according to Michael Sluchan, Executive Vice President of Movies, Kids, Daytime, NBCUniversal Television, and Streaming.

“We fell in love with this narrative all over again when author Andy Breckman presented us with a fresh Monk case that takes place in the present. We’re thrilled to be working with the original creative team since the movie combines the passion and humor of the original series with current relevance.

Together with Shalhoub (The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel), the film will bring back Ted Levine, Taylor Howard, Jason Gray-Stanford, Melora Hardin, Hector Elizondo, and Jason Gray-Stanford from Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom, Percy Jackson and the Olympians, and The Painter (Pretty Woman, Chicago Hope). Together with David Hoberman, Randy Zisk, who will also direct, and Andy Breckman, the next film’s originator and writer, Shalhoub will also serve as an executive producer. The eight-season TV program’s team also included Hoberman, Zisk, and Breckman.
