Shazam is losing not just its domestic audience, but also international ones. The Gods’ fury. Worldwide, the superhero sequel is underperforming expectations. The movie’s opening weekend take was anticipated to be over $85 million worldwide, but current projections put that number closer to $65.5 million. Scream VI’s opening weekend worldwide earnings of $67 million were recorded only last week.

Fury of the Gods’ domestic opening weekend box office took in a disappointing $30.5 million, but it managed to bring in $35 million from foreign markets. Comparatively, the initial Shazam! Earned $158 million globally and $53.5 million domestically in its first weekend back in 2019. In the end, it earned $140 million domestically and $366 million internationally, which is a respectable sum given its lower-than-average $100 million budget.

On the other hand, it is said that the production of Fury of the Gods cost $125 million. Warner Bros. also didn’t exactly give up on it. The movie’s release was postponed by the company in order to avoid competition from Avatar: The Way of Water, and more than 4,000 domestic cinemas showed it.

Also receiving a rare day-and-date release was Wrath of the Gods in China, the biggest movie market in the world. But in the post-pandemic age, the Middle Kingdom has a bad reputation for being unnecessary for Hollywood films. Due to rigorous censorship standards and prohibitions on imported films, the majority of movies never even get released, but the few that do aren’t doing as well as they were a few years ago. Few Hollywood movies, with the exception of The Way of Water and Jurassic World Dominion, have had an impact on China in the post-pandemic era.

Fury of the Gods, which starred Zachary Levi as the titular character, only made $4.4 million in China, a far cry from the $30 million opening weekend of the first movie. Mexico’s $4 million premiere came next. The United Kingdom ($3 million), Indonesia ($1.6 million), Brazil ($1.6 million), and Australia ($1.6 million) round out the top five markets for Fury of the Gods.

The 12th movie in the troubled DC Extended Universe, which recently acquired new leadership in co-CEOs James Gunn and Peter Safran, is titled Fury of the Gods. The pair will be in charge of the franchise’s destiny over the following few years in an endeavor to change the reactionary reputation that it had gained over the past decade or so to one that is more focused. The two David F. Sandberg-directed Shazam movies were created to serve as a lighter counterpoint to the darker Man of Steel, Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice, and even Suicide Squad. Yet as the series progresses, DC fans appear to be more interested in the present than in the past, particularly with movies that didn’t have Zack Snyder as the director.

In the future DCEU films The Flash, Blue Beetle, and Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom, the current era will continue before basically rebooting with Gunn’s Superman: Legacy. Asher Angel, Jack Dylan Grazer, Rachel Zegler, Adam Brody, Ross Butler, Meagan Good, Lucy Liu, Djimon Hounsou, and Helen Mirren are featured in Fury of the Gods as well.
