Riley Keough explained that her mother, Lisa Marie Presley, needed two months to fully say goodbye to her son and Keough’s brother, Benjamin. In an excerpt from the memoir, Lisa Marie stated, "There is no law in the state of California that requires immediate burial." Keough also shared that her mother had followed a similar ritual when Elvis Presley passed away.
In her book, Lisa Marie Presley shared that keeping her father’s body at home after his death was immensely helpful, allowing her to spend time with him and talk to him. She revealed that she did the same with her son, keeping his body in a room set to 55 degrees. She frequently visited him while deciding on his final resting place.
The musician ultimately had to decide between two locations, Hawaii or Graceland. In her memoir, she further wrote.."That was part of why it took so long.” Lisa Marie added, "I got so used to him, caring for him and keeping him there. I think it would scare the living f---ing piss out of anybody else to have their son there like that. But not me."
Moreover, Keough revealed that she and her mother decided to get tattoos in honor of her late brother. Benjamin had his sister’s tattoo on his collarbone and their mother’s tattoo on his arm.
Presley brought the tattoo artist to their home and into the room where her son’s body was kept to ensure precision. The actress recalled the event as, "I've had an extremely absurd life, but this moment is in the top five.”
Riley stated that after they got their tattoos, she felt that her brother’s body did not want to remain at the house, prompting the family to finally decide to bury him at Graceland.
