Oxford-AstraZeneca Covid vaccine safe, says UK health secretary

UK’s health secretary has assured that the Oxford-AstraZeneca Covid vaccine is safe. 

As per the details, Matt Hancock has urged people to “listen to the regulators” and to “get the jab” as they got the vaccine.

Some European nations including France, Germany, and Italy have temporarily halted the inoculation over blood clot claims. 

However, UK’s medicines watchdog MHRA has assured that evidence “does not suggest” the jab causes clots.

Mr. Hancock said that the MHRA, the World Health Organization, and the European Medicines Agency all believed the vaccine was safe.

“We keep the effects of these vaccines under review all the time and we know that the Oxford-AstraZeneca vaccine is saving lives in the UK right now so if you get the call, get the jab,” he said.

Moreover, the health secretary said that there were still “huge numbers of people vaccinated every day” and that “enthusiasm for getting the vaccine is incredibly strong”.

It is important to mention that around 17 million people in the EU and the UK have received the vaccine jabs. Manufacturer AstraZeneca said that less than 40 cases of blood clots have been reported as of last week.

It said the number of cases of blood clots reported was lower than the hundreds of cases that would be expected among the general population.
