Mexican Health Minister David Kershenobich announced that at least 28 people have died due to the measles outbreak that began in 2025. So far, authorities have recorded 9,074 cases, according to official data shared during President Claudia Sheinbaum’s morning press conference.

Mexico has 28 million measles vaccines available for distribution. President Sheinbaum stated that this supply “is sufficient for the outbreak, and there will even be some left over.” Official figures indicate the country currently has 6.7 cumulative measles cases per 100,000 people.

Regarding the upcoming World Cup, which Mexico will co-host with the United States and Canada, Sheinbaum said no special measures have been planned for the event at this time.

Meanwhile, the measles outbreak is also affecting the United States. The South Carolina health department reported 310 cases in January linked to the ongoing outbreak, an increase of 99 cases from earlier in the week, marking the state’s largest rise in months.
